1. The first tune you loved I used to be a huge Doors fan—had Morrison’s books of poetry, read a couple of biographies, had all of the albums—and I loved that song “Cars Hiss By The Window.”  It took me a while before I gave up thinking I was the reincarnation of Jim Morrison himself although the thought still sometimes boils up.

2. The band that opened your ears. It came rather late in life.  I was 23-years-old when I heard Bob Dylan for the first time at a cafe in San Diego, California.  The song was “Positively Fourth Street”.  That same year, I heard Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” for the first time.  I started doing hard drugs almost immediately afterwards.

3. The instrument(s) you play. I can play anything.

4. Your song. “Bitch Betta Have My Money” by Easy E.

5.  Favorite song + band from your country of birth. Ever heard of Will Oldham/Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billie/Palace?  He’s a genius from Louisville, Kentucky.  Any of his songs will do.

6. Your Shanghai theme. “I’d Rather Walk Than Run” by Herman Dune.

7. The band you want to see playing live. My own band.

8. When it’s not about music… It’s about guilt-free sex.  The best kind.

9. Your relationship with ducks. In Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield asks a cab driver, “Where do the ducks go when the lake freezes?”  I’ve always felt that that question had some relevance that I’ve yet to grasp.

10. Your favorite spice. Please.

1. The first tune you loved… When you talk about love … I mean, LOVE! … well it would probably have to be Life Is A Pigsty by that cherpy chat of pop, Morrissey. You know, he’s right, and it’s the first time a song has truly …. I mean, TRULY … said what I was thinking at the time. I may or may not have been in a pigsty at the time.

2. The band that opened your ears. I don’t normally allow musicians to perform complex surgery on me, particularly not when it comes to something as vital as the ears. However, I did once allow Neil Diamond to put me in the recovery position, but that’s a whole different story.

3. The instrument(s) you play. I play a little thing called the Heart Strings. I pluck them every day as I try to make a breakthrough in this craving world of iconism. In a non-philosophical sense, I also play the harmonic. Or do I? Hmmmmm.4.Your song: My Sharona … it was written about me, you know, when I used to be known as, yes, Sharona.

5. Favorite song + band from your country of birth. Oh, that’s a tricky one. You see I’m from lots of places. I’m legion, for we are many. The song would probably have to be Sunzech Frome Yultedicl, and old country fable about losing your ipod on the Pony Express. The band would have to be Puppies In The Fire. They rock! … in a ‘make a little girl cry’ way.

6. Your Shanghai theme. “I love rock ‘n’ roll. Put another dime in the jukebox, baby!”

7. The band you want to see playing live. All of them, good and bad. Although I’ve always wanted to go to a festival and throw a water bottle (empty or otherwise) at Justin Timberlake. Not like a posh bottle of Evian, I mean one of those big cooler bottles lazy office workers stand around and talk about why Erika is such as bitch.

8. When it is not about music it is about… chemicals. We’re all just chemicals.

9 . Your relationship with ducks… They know where I am, but we keep our distance. It’s been tough after the break-up.

10. Your favorite spice. Jam. Is jam as spice? If not, it should be.

1. The first tune you loved.  I’m going for the first tune I was wholly responsible for finding, as anything I picked up from my parents is heart-stoppingly embarrassing: ‘Alive’ by Pearl Jam.  ‘Ten’ completely changed the kind of music I listened to and how I listened to it.

2. The band that opened your ears.  Kruder & Dorfmeister (ok, so not technically a band).  I listened to the K&D Sessions in 1998 and immediately turned my back on guitar-based music for the next few years…

3. The instrument(s) you play.  The GeoScan FM36 fluxgate magnetometer.  For all your ultra-ultra-minimalist electro needs… beep!

4. Your song.  Belle & Sebastian, ‘There’s Too Much Love’.

5. Favorite song + band from your country of birth.  Ummm… either Kid Loco’s ‘A Grand Love Theme’, or Serge Gainsbourg’s ‘Bonnie and Clyde’.  Anything by Serge, actually; what a legend!

6.Your Shanghai theme.  Radiohead, ‘Nude’…  ‘You’ll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking’: you’re damn right, I will, Thom!

7. The band you want to see playing live.  All those that the UK touts snap up all the tickets to, within 5 seconds of them going on sale (bastards).  The Arcade Fire, Shins, Decemberists.

8. When is not about music is about….  It’s about bikes and really old stuff.

9. Your relationship with ducks.  It involves gavage.

10. Your favorite spice: Rosemary.
